Wrap Them in Healing Comfort

Beauty Brite Disclosure

Call it writer’s block or procrastination, but finding the right words for this post has been a struggle. Although writing is what I do for a living, talking about July 21, 2017, is still so raw and painful. After two years of fighting harder than I ever thought possible, my mom lost her battle against Stage IV Colon Cancer. That morning and the day she was diagnosed are two of the worst days of my family’s life. Since then, I’ve been longing for some healing comfort.

My mom was an amazing woman. She was smart, beautiful, compassionate, loving and a bit of a smartass. Although as a proper southern lady, her style and class meant the worst thing to come out of her mouth was “Sugar†and “Darnâ€. She was always right, especially about boys, and taught my siblings and me so much about life and love.

Healing Comfort - picts of mom

A couple of my favorite pictures of my mom. I’m in the one on the right, though I won’t make an appearance into the world for a few more months.

She was so dedicated to her family and loved to brag about her husband, children, and grandchildren. It’s part of the reason she wanted so badly to beat cancer. She wanted to be here to watch her grandkids grow up. I wish more than anything that she would have had that chance. A chance that was stolen from her and her mother, who also passed away from colon cancer right after I was born.

Healing Comfort - Favorite pict of me

This picture will always make me think of my mom. Even though she was getting chemo, she texted me when she saw it to say how beautiful she thought I looked.

I miss her every single day. I long to hear her voice, even in text, to talk to her, to give her a hug, or to simply spend time in the kitchen with her trying out another new recipe. There is a hole in my heart and in my families because of her absence and it sucks. I wish I could put it more eloquently, but I can’t. (I also don’t think my mom would approve of the other choice words I would like to use.)

Finding Healing Comfort

I’ve often heard people ask, why do they call it battling cancer or the fight? It’s simple, because that is what it truly is. Every day, every week is another challenge, another doctor’s appointment, another round of chemo. My mom faced each setback needle poke, surgery and chemo treatment with grace and unapparelled strength and bravery.

Healing Comfort Grey Blanket

If you’ve ever been to a treatment room of a cancer center, you know what a shock it can be. There are rows and rows of chairs with patients hooked up to bags and bags of medicine. Needless to say, it doesn’t always inspire healing comfort.

When my mom was going through treatment, we had a chemo tote bag. It was full of blankets, sweaters, a pillow and other items to make her feel more comfortable. It’s little personal things like these that bring some comfort. So, when Beauty Brite was approached about including Rows of Throws Healing Thoughts Blankets on our blog, I said yes immediately. I loved the idea of wrapping others in healing comfort.

Healing Thoughts Blankets

This small family-owned business produces beautiful, super soft fleece blankets for chemo patients or anyone recovering from an illness. Each grey or teal blanket features positive affirmations and get-well words to help lift your loved one’s spirits. The messages range from Courageous and Support, to Here for You and Healing Vibes.

Healing Comfort Teal Blanket

I know my mom would have loved one of these blankets. Not just because they are inspiring and soft, but also because of Rows of Throws 1:1 donation program. For each Healing Blanket purchased, they donate a blanket to patients at chemotherapy centers, hospitals, and nursing homes. Which is exactly what I’m going to be doing with the blankets I received and plan on purchasing. Knowing I can help others, in honor of my mom, brings me some healing comfort.

If you want to bring someone healing comfort, whether a loved one or a complete stranger, I invite you to visit Healing Thoughts Blankets. You can choose to send your blanket to a chemotherapy center or hospital or to a friend in need. Be sure to scroll down on the teal or grey blanket page for special offers or promos.

Rows of Throws has also generously offered to host a giveaway here on Beauty Brite. Be sure to enter the Healing Thoughts giveaway for your chance to win one of their grey or teal blankets.
